Croda Relaunches Beauty Active Volufiline

The resurgence demonstrates how innovation can generate commercial opportunities decades after a launch.

As part of its strategy to accelerate growth in beauty, Croda is identifying new opportunities across its portfolio by combining new product development with the repositioning of established ingredients. Volufiline, a natural plant extract used in traditional Asian herbal medicine that visibly plumps areas losing volume with age, is one such example.

Growing awareness of facial volume loss, driven in part by the increasing popularity of GLP-1 treatments, has created demand for innovative, non-invasive cosmetic solutions. Croda has successfully repositioned Volufiline to address this emerging consumer need, helping beauty brands respond to increasing interest in restoring facial fullness. It demonstrates how established technologies can create new value when supported by strong science combined with customer and market insights.

The ingredient’s renewed success reflects Croda’s long-term investment in scientific research and development, coupled with the customer intimacy and market understanding needed to identify emerging opportunities. By recognizing this growing consumer trend, Croda was able to reposition Volufiline for a new generation of beauty products. More than a decade after its launch, this ingredient continues to resonate with both brands and consumers, illustrating the enduring value of a portfolio built on proven performance and scientific excellence.

Customer requests to use Croda’s ingredient trademarks have also increased threefold over the past year, reflecting growing recognition of the company’s ingredient brands and the value they bring to customers. Consumer interest in Volufiline has accelerated rapidly. Independent trend analysis shows significant growth in online searches and social media discussion, particularly across facial skincare and eye care applications.

In June 2026, Cosmopolitan described Volufiline as “TikTok’s new ‘It’ skincare ingredient,” highlighting its growing prominence among beauty consumers.

Sandra Breene, president, consumer care, said: “Volufiline is a strong example of Croda’s innovation model in action. While developing new ingredients remains critical to long-term growth, innovation is not only about launching new technologies. It is also about identifying new opportunities for existing ingredients and helping customers respond to evolving consumer needs.

“The renewed success of Volufiline demonstrates how we can help customers respond rapidly to changing consumer trends while maximizing the value of our innovation investments. It is a powerful example of how established technologies can deliver meaningful commercial growth for both our customers and Croda.”

Volufiline is the trade name for an anhydrous, oil-like solution rich in sarsasapogenin, a plant-derived phytosterol (cholesterol-like molecule) extracted from Anemarrhena asphodeloides.
